Our series: Pharma Industry’s Perspectives on Serialisation continues with the point of view of Mr. Madalin Virdol, Product Manager at High-Tech Systems & Software (HTSS), a software development company with more than 1,000 customers in 15 countries and part of the Penta Investments group, and long-time representative of the Software Providers’ Community.
Starting with 2019 monthly meetings have been set-up with Software Providers to provide a better understanding of the serialization context and to ensure that technical requirements of the implementation of the Falsified Medicines Directive and Delegated Regulation 2016/161 are successfully met by all the actors.
The meetings, which developed into Virtual Gatherings accommodating a large number of professionals, also focused on eliminating technical issues which generate false alerts in the National Medicines Verification System (NMVS).
This year, in September, OSMR organized the first in-person meeting with the Software Providers, with whom it managed to grow, over the course of 5 years, an online collaborative community.
Mr. Madalin Virdol has been a constant presence ever since the beginning of the Falsified Medicines Directive implementation in Romania. He was a part of the Working Group in charge of setting clear guidelines for the Software providers to the pharmacies and wholesalers and we are delighted to welcome him to our virtual space.
“I wanted to be involved in this one of-a-kind serialisation project since its early stages because I think the benefit brought to patients is immense: their safety is protected by ensuring no falsified medicines enter the legal supply chain.
In the last few years, serialisation has become a cornerstone in ensuring the safety and integrity of the pharma supply chain, both in Romania and in Europe.
The implementation was complex, involving technical and regulatory hurdles. However, thanks to the collaborative efforts between software providers, OSMR, National Authorities, pharmaceutical companies, End-Users, we managed to set the basis to meet these new standards.
The serialization journey has shown us that the future of the pharma industry lies in transparency and safety. With serialization now firmly embedded as a standard, we look forward to further innovation and continued partnership with OSMR and all industry stakeholders. Together, we’re setting a powerful example for how technology can enhance the integrity of the pharma supply chain and protect patient safety” said Madalin Virdol, Product Manager HTSS.
