On November 17th, we had the great pleasure of travelling to Sofia to meet with our colleagues from the Bulgarian Medicines Verification Organisation (BgMVO) for an experience-exchange event.
This meeting represented an important step in strengthening cross-border collaboration within the European Medicines Verification System community.
The discussions were open, detailed, and highly productive. OSMR and BgMVO operate the same type of National Medicines Verification System through two different technical providers — Arvato in Romania and SolidSoft in Bulgaria — and our organisations share the same mission: ensuring that patients receive safe, authentic medicines through a trusted and efficient NMVS.
This dual-perspective setup made the exchange particularly valuable, allowing us to compare approaches, identify shared challenges, and learn from each other’s practical solutions.
Throughout the day, we explored a broad range of operational and strategic topics, with special focus on:
• Alert management and improving the efficiency of handling cases
• End-User onboarding, training, and support practices
• Individual and joint system testing, updates tracking and continuous monitoring
• Quality assurance processes embedded in daily operations
• Legislative frameworks, and how national specifics influence implementation
Meetings like this are essential for building stronger alignment among NMVOs across Europe. They reinforce the importance of cooperation, transparency, and continuous learning in safeguarding the integrity of the medicines supply chain.
