As 2022 starts unfolding, we take the time to have a glance at last year’s activity in the National Medicines Verification System (NMVS) in terms of transactions performed by the End-Users and the alerts that have been raised in the system.

As the graphic illustrates, this one-of-a-kind system is being intensely utilized by the Romanian End-Users and the alert rate (alerts’ percentage out of the total number of transactions) has steadily decreased thought the previous year.

NMVS Activity 2021

It is of the utmost importance that patients trust the authenticity of the medicines they purchase, as it is known that falsified medicines pose a great threat to public health, either by containing ingredients of lower quality or in incorrect doses or by the complete absence of the active substances.

OSMR’s mission, that of ensuring a functional and secure National Medicines Verification System, complying with the European Directive 2011/62/EU and the Delegated Regulation 2016/161, is successfully accomplished each year by relying on four strategic pillars: sustaining operational transparency, enhancing alert reduction, ensuring the system’s stability and strengthening stakeholders’ liaison.  Therefore, the entire OSMR Team is engaged in ensuring patients’ access to safe medicines.
