As part of the „Pharma Industry’s Perspectives on Serialisation” series, we want to bring to the forefront the patients’ point of view on the implementation of the Falsified Medicines Directive in Romania. Thus, it’s with great pleasure that we welcome into our virtual space Mr. Radu Gănescu – President of COPAC – Coalition of Patients’ Organisations with Chronic Diseases in Romania.

Mr. Radu Gănescu – President of COPAC – Coalition of Patients’ Organisations with Chronic Diseases in Romania.
„I would like to point out the fact that the implementation of the National Medicines Verification System (NMVS) represented a significant step in protecting patients in Romania. Falsified medicines are a real threat to public health and fortunately there is now a fully operational system which prevents falsified medicines from entering the legal supply chain. The patient has full confidence that when a prescription medicine is given to him, that medicine is authentic.
Patient safety is our most important goal and through this serialisation process we have been able to give the patient confidence in having access to safe, non-falsified products, there is still the problem of purchasing medicines online, as there is still nothing regulated here.
NMVS is proof that when there is openness and cooperation between the main actors of the pharmaceutical industry: the Ministry of Health, the National Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices, Marketing Authorisation Holders, community and hospital pharmacies, the wholesalers and parallel importers, extraordinay things can be accomplished.”
